Peer Reviewer

Peer Review Process

All manuscripts submitted to AN-NABA: Islamic Communication Journal undergo a rigorous peer-review process to ensure the academic quality, validity, and integrity of the published research. The journal applies a double-blind peer review process, in which the identities of both authors and reviewers are kept anonymous.

The peer review process is conducted by experts in Islamic communication, dakwah, media and broadcasting studies, religious studies, and socio-cultural communication, who evaluate manuscripts based on their scholarly merit, originality, methodological rigor, and relevance to the journal’s aims and scope.

1. Initial Evaluation

Upon submission, each manuscript is subject to an initial evaluation by the editorial board to determine its suitability in terms of the journal’s scope, focus, and publication requirements. Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria will be rejected without further review.

Manuscripts with a similarity index exceeding 30% will be rejected at this stage. The editorial office also checks compliance with formatting requirements, citation style, and author guidelines. If the manuscript does not meet these requirements, it will be returned to the author for correction and resubmission. Manuscripts that pass the initial evaluation will be forwarded to peer reviewers.

2. Assignment of Reviewers

The editorial board assigns one or more independent reviewers who possess relevant expertise and research experience in the subject area of the manuscript. The identities of authors and reviewers remain confidential throughout the review process.

Author names, acknowledgments, and statements of author contributions must be removed from the main manuscript and provided separately in the title page file. Reviewers are preferably affiliated with institutions different from those of the authors and are selected based on scholarly expertise, availability, and the absence of conflicts of interest.

The journal is committed to assigning reviewers within two weeks after the completion of the initial evaluation.

3. Review Process

Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on its academic quality, originality, methodological soundness, analytical depth, and contribution to the fields of Islamic communication and media studies. Reviewers are generally given two weeks to complete the review.

Reviewers provide constructive feedback to help authors improve their manuscripts and submit recommendations to accept, reject, or request revisions.

4. Editorial Decision

The Editor-in-Chief makes the final decision regarding acceptance, rejection, or revision of the manuscript based on the reviewers’ recommendations and the manuscript’s compliance with journal standards.

If the reviewers’ evaluations differ significantly, the editor may invite an additional reviewer before making a final decision. The editorial decision—acceptance, rejection, minor revision, or major revision—is communicated to the author through the online submission system, together with anonymous reviewer comments.

The average time from manuscript submission to the first decision is approximately one month, while the time from acceptance to publication ranges from two to three months.

5. Revision Process

If a manuscript is accepted with revisions, authors are required to revise the manuscript in accordance with the reviewers’ comments and resubmit it along with a response letter explaining how each comment has been addressed.

Authors are typically given two weeks for minor revisions and four weeks for major revisions. Manuscripts requiring major revisions may undergo a second round of review by the same reviewers, while minor revisions may be evaluated directly by the editor.

6. Publication

Once a manuscript is accepted for publication, authors are required to submit the final version of the manuscript. The manuscript will then undergo copyediting and layout formatting before being published in the journal.

This peer-review process ensures that all manuscripts published in AN-NABA: Islamic Communication Journal meet high standards of scholarly quality, ethical conduct, and academic rigor.
