About the Journal

AN-NABA : Islamic Communication Journal is an international, peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal published by the Islamic Communication and Broadcasting Study Program, Faculty of Islamic Dakwah and Communication, Institut Agama Islam Yasni Bungo, Indonesia.

The journal publishes original research and critical review articles that examine communication, media, and broadcasting from Islamic, religious, and socio-cultural perspectives. AN-NABA is dedicated to advancing scholarly understanding of how Islamic values, discourses, and practices interact with contemporary communication systems, media technologies, and global cultural dynamics.

AN-NABA positions itself within the field of communication and media studies, with a specific focus on religion-based communication. The journal welcomes interdisciplinary research that connects communication studies with religious studies, cultural studies, sociology, media studies, and digital humanities. By promoting rigorous academic inquiry and international scholarly dialogue, AN-NABA aims to contribute to the global development of Islamic communication and media research.

Aims and Scope

AN-NABA aims to disseminate high-quality scholarly research that contributes to the theoretical, empirical, and methodological development of Islamic communication and media studies at national and international levels.

The journal focuses on communication phenomena related to Islam and Muslim societies, addressing both classical traditions and contemporary challenges shaped by digital media, globalization, and socio-cultural transformation.

The scope of the journal includes, but is not limited to, the following areas:

  • Islamic Communication and Dakwah

Theories of Islamic communication, dakwah strategies, religious persuasion, public communication, da‘wah movements, and ethics of Islamic communication.

  • Islamic Broadcasting and Media Studies

Islamic television and radio broadcasting, digital Islamic media, social media dakwah, online religious communication, and institutional media practices.

  • Islamic Rhetoric and Homiletics

Islamic rhetoric, khutbah and preaching discourse, homiletic traditions, religious public speaking, and persuasive religious communication.

  • Islamic Journalism

Religious journalism, Islamic news production, media framing of Islam, journalism ethics, and representation of religion in mass media.

  • Dakwah Media and Creative Communication

Visual and audiovisual dakwah, digital storytelling, podcasting, creative religious content, and media innovation for Islamic communication.

  • Religious Films and Islamic Popular Culture

Religious films, Islamic narratives in cinema, popular culture, media representation of Islam, and religious symbolism in contemporary media.

AN-NABA prioritizes manuscripts that demonstrate originality, analytical depth, methodological rigor, and relevance to international academic discourse.

Types of Published Articles

AN-NABA publishes the following types of manuscripts:

  1. Research Articles
    Original empirical or theoretical studies within the journal’s scope. Articles must present a clear research objective, methodology, analysis, discussion, and conclusion.
    Maximum length: 8,000–10,000 words, including references.
  2. Review Articles
    Critical and systematic reviews of current literature that identify theoretical debates, research gaps, and future directions in Islamic communication and media studies.
    Maximum length: 10,000–12,000 words, including references.

All manuscripts undergo a double-blind peer review process.

Publication Frequency

AN-NABA is published biannually, with two issues per year:

  • June
  • December

The journal is committed to consistent publication schedules and timely dissemination of scholarly work.

Language

All manuscripts must be written in English. Authors are required to use clear academic language and follow international standards of scholarly writing.

Publication Charges

AN-NABA does not charge Article Processing Charges (APCs).
The journal is fully supported by its publisher to ensure inclusive and equitable access to academic publishing.

Open Access Policy

Ownership and Management

AN-NABA is owned and managed by the Islamic Communication and Broadcasting Study Program, Faculty of Islamic Dakwah and Communication, Institut Agama Islam Yasni Bungo. Editorial decisions are made independently by the editorial board based solely on academic merit.

Publisher

AN-NABA is published by Institut Agama Islam Yasni Bungo, Indonesia.

Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain the copyright of their articles. All published works are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) License, allowing unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction, provided the original work is properly cited.

Revenue Sources

The journal is supported through institutional funding and academic partnerships. Revenue sources do not influence editorial policies or peer-review decisions. Transparency and editorial independence are strictly maintained.

Advertising

AN-NABA may publish advertisements related to academic activities such as conferences, seminars, and calls for papers. Advertising content has no influence on editorial decisions and is clearly separated from scholarly content.

Direct Marketing

AN-NABA conducts ethical and responsible direct marketing activities, including journal announcements and calls for papers, in compliance with data protection regulations and academic best practices.

Journal History
